Municipality of Milies

The region of Kala Nera belongs to the Municipalityof Milies which consists of the villages of Milies, Vyzitsa, Pinakates and Agios Georgios. The village of Milies, the capital of the municipality, lies at an altitude of 450 metres, 8 km away from Kala Nera. It is a historical village and the birthplace of many important Greek benefactors. By following the road through and beyond Milies, you can visit the rest of the villages. Two kilometres from Milies, at an altitude of 600 metres, you will find the renovated village of Vyzitsa.

The houses and mansions in the village are built using traditional Pelion techniques. In recent years, Vyzitsa has become a very popular destination during the winter months.

On following the road from Vyzitsa one finds the village of Pinakates, a village which has maintained its traditional image and culture and thus still features traditional mansions, buildings, springs, cobbled paths and a central square with a huge plane tree.

Just 2km further on from Pinakates lies the village of Agios Georgios Nileias. As described by local scholars, it is a good place with a good view, a jewel on the mountain. Agios Georgios is considered to be somewhat pioneering regarding cultural development. Areas of natural beauty, places of historical interest and cultural activities during the summer are just some of the things that attract the many visitors who come to the village.

Finally, we must mention the settlements of Koropi (also known as “Boufa”) to the east and Kala Nera and Gatzea to the west, thus completing the description of the area.

Both places are 1km from Kala Nera, and both have adequate tourist facilities and are ideal summer vacation destinations..
